News about Reed Boats in 2008.

January 2008.

Over New Year we had a very good cruise travelling from Warwick up Hatton and Lapworth locks to celebrate New Year's Eve on the Northern Stratford canal out in the country with a special meal. New Years' Day was then spent cruising through Kings Norton to join the Worcester and Birmingham Canal. Finishing by mooring at the top of Tardebbigge Locks where I gave guests and family a lift back to Warwick.

I then stayed on the boats so that I could place each of them in turn in the dry dock at Tardebbigge. Spending a week working on each boat as you can see alongside. Cleaning their bottoms and repainting the parts we can not get at when the are afloat. We also took the chance to get some lasting repair work done to a small leak by the stern tube on the motor.

With the help of crew from Away-4-Awhile I then shifted the boats from Tardebbigge to Swallow Cruises at Hockley Heath back on the Stratford upon Avon canal. Here Richard boats refitted the lounge on the butty while I continued to paint the outsides of the boats. Here we were able to get the boats checked over and a few small jobs carried out to obtain the Boat Safety Certificate which was due for renewal.

Finally, as part of a special Birthday cruise for my son on the last weekend of January we brought the boats back down Lapworth and Hatton locks to moor back on our winter moorings at Saltisford Warwick. We will now stay here till we start cruising at Easter. Carrying on with interior maintenance and improvements and also finishing painting the outside of both boats.
