News about Reed Boats in 2007.
May 2007.
Time
to write again as we are now moored for a break at Nantwich. In the last couple
of months we have been travelling around the canals of Cheshire, Shropshire and
Staffordshire. We have been on the Shropie, up to Llangollen, including a visit
down the Montgomery, up and down the Cheshire locks, out to Buxworth and down
the Caldon. Now we are resting at Nantwich before setting off to complete our
visits to this area by going right over to Liverpool.
This years visit to the Stoke on Trent area was spoilt when our dog Tessa, became ill. She had been very immobile for the last few weeks, but then her kidneys failed totally as we travelled on the Caldon and she died just before we came back to Stoke. So unfortunately, except during the school holidays, we will be without a dog on the boats for the first time since we started.
Then due to Crew problems we needed extra help as we started down the Cheshire locks which was kindly supplied by Cliff Morgan off Away4AWhile who joined us for a couple of days.
By
chance this area seems to have been subjected to an invasion of Hotel Boats with
all four remaining motor and butty pairs spending all of April in the area. I
passed Dawn & Dusk on our way into Nantwich, Snipe & Taurus, under their
new owners, are moored just around the corner from me at present and Dawn &
Dusk will be here as well this weekend. We also seem to have being doing a trade
in swopping crew! Trevor who started the season with me has now moved over to
Duke & Duchess to be with a very good friend of his who was already there.
While Donovan who started the season on Dawn & Dusk has, after a short break,
come to work for me.
Marie however is still very happily settled on Oak & Ash, so our crew for at least the next couple of months will be Marie and Donovan.
Finally I have now finalised the routes for next year, 2008. I will circulate them this week to those people who have in the past either booked charter groups or expressed an interest in doing. Then just before the end of May I will put them on line. If you are planning that far ahead you can then make a provisional reservation for a non returnable deposit of £20, which will be deducted from the full deposit you will be asked for in September.
