News about Reed Boats in 2007.
February 2007.
We are still
moored up for the winter at Saltisford Arm in Warwick until our first cruise starts
in the middle of March. I will be on the boats carrying out winter work some of
the time, and back home in the Cotswolds some of the time. If you would like to
come and have a look over the boats before booking you are very welcome, likewise
if you just wish to call in for a cup of tea, coffee or something stronger. However
remember that I am not always here and if you are making a special journey do
phone first to check I'm on the boats.
As you can see from the picture alongside we have just been treated to snow and ice. It looks quite pretty but I am glad I do not have to travel through it at present. It is quite different to watch the local geese standing on the ice in front of the boat and the ducks swimming in the patch melted by the outlet from the central heating.
Keeping out of the snow I have been inside the butty doing a general clean through involving new coats of varnish everywhere as well as installing some improvements. Next week I start work inside the motor so we will be able to offer you DVDs, (only if you want it!)
We were unable to do the advertised Winter Cruises in February, not due to snow and ice, that would have made them quite pretty but because British Waterways introduced unnecessary lock restrictions without any warning. I have since had an apology, an agreement that they were over zealous and an assurance it will not happen again but unfortunately all too late for the people who wished to cruise this year. However I now have contact numbers to use if it happened again.
Bookings
are going well for next year. Do not leave it too long as I am having to tell
some people that the cruise they want is already fully booked.
Our New Year Cruise was very successful, from Warwick up to Braunston for New Year and then back to Warwick. It was however very wet and very windy. The boats were very warm inside however and it was a new experience to moor at Long Itchington above a lake! The river which goes under the Grand Union at this place being in full flood.
I am now recruiting crew for next year. My eldest daughter Marie is going to come for the whole year as indoor crew. I have just placed an advert for outdoor crew. If you know anyone who might be interested tell them to get in touch with me.
