A Scrap Book of the building of Oak & Ash.
Craning 'Oak' into the canal 27th January 2004.
First the boat was placed on metal rollers, one of which is seen in the top picture. Then using the forklift truck the boat is very slowly edged out of the shed and into the cold January air. |
The crane then carefully picks up the boat and finishes edging it out into the open. Seen in the top picture. Once the boat is clear of the shed the crane swings it up into the air and places it on the rear of a long lorry. The final stage of this is seen in the lower picture. |
The lorry is then guided the short distance up to the side of the canal. You can see this in the top picture, with the bow of Nutfield, a working motor under restoration just visible on the left. The crane is then repositioned and it lifts the boat up again and swings it into the canal. You can see this in the lower picture. In the background is one of the Ownership Boats like we used to own, here at Braunston for their annual overhaul. |
